La Esfinge, also
know as La Torre
de Paron, is beautiful
alpine tower of
perfect orange
granite located
in the Paron Valley,
home to other
such formations
of lesser altitude
and quality. The
two largest faces
on La Esfinge,
the east and southeast
face, have several
established routes.
Although only
500m to 600m in
height, this area
of the wall has
the steepest,
cleanest rock
on the mountain
and appear ideal
for a modern climbing
routes.
The granite towers
and walls of Peru,
primarily La Esfinge,
hold much potential
for high altitude
big wall climbing
but are usually
overlooked in
favor of the big
snowy peaks for
which the range
is famous. With
some routes now
breaching Esfinge's
ramparts, there
is still countless
aid and free lines
waiting to be
attempted by the
adventurous in
search of a different
Peruvian climbing
experience. We
will climb the
Original route,
holding mostly
classical climbing
but with a 11b
short section
8 we can avoid
it with jummaring
, up on your skill
level. It will
takes us at least
two days on the
wall. It has wonderful
climbing in altitude
on perfect orange
granite.
